DJ Van Dyk

My Background.

My career in financial advice began in 2014 in South Africa. In July 2017, I relocated to Melbourne with my family. Upon arriving in Australia, I began working closely with practicing advisers, researching and writing their client-facing advice documents. This built upon my financial expertise in the local financial landscape.

After two years in this role, and completing additional studies in Australia, I transitioned from paraplanning to become a Financial Adviser.

Over the years I have developed a comprehensive skillset and a holistic approach to financial advice, enabling me to deliver tailored, high-quality advice to a diverse range of clients.

Why I do what I do.

I genuinely love giving people the skillset to feel confident about their finances and help them to make informed decisions - approaching their financial future with optimism. It is incredibly rewarding seeing my clients’ kicking goals while continuing to enjoy the lifestyle they value today.

My Approach.

I endeavour to work closely with you as my client to develop a plan that balances your financial objectives with your lifestyle priorities. This approach assists clients in understanding and taking ownership over their financial achievements.

It is important to me that I operate in a manner that is transparent and ethical. My view is that the most valuable advice is not just a transaction. I am available as your adviser to provide ongoing support and guidance as questions arise and your circumstances change.

Me outside work.

Outside of work, I’m a passionate cricket fan. While I was born in South Africa, I’ve always admired the Australian cricket team. Since moving here, I’ve embraced the local culture, and without forgetting my roots, I proudly support Australia. I firmly believe that Test cricket is the pinnacle of sports!

Beyond cricket, I’m actively involved in our local church and deeply committed to my faith as a follower of Jesus Christ.

On the personal front, I’m a proud dad to my son, Hunter, who I’m doing my best to introduce to the joys of cricket—though he seems to prefer soccer (for now). I’m also incredibly blessed to be married to my amazing wife, who works for our church, helping meet the needs of our community.

My Background.

I started within the financial advice profession in 2011, having completed both a Bachelor & Master of Commerce in related fields. Initially my roles included preparing tailored financial plans for clients of other advisers, as well as implementing those strategies on the client’s behalf.  In 2014, I began advising clients directly – having taken over the advice responsibilities as my previous employer stepped out of advice. In 2021 I was appointed the Senior Financial Adviser and manager of a satellite financial advice office – subsequently taking on the role of Responsible Manager for the Financial Services Licence of that business. Being a Financial Planner and having been a Responsible Manager, I have developed a comprehensive skillset to provide tailored, ethical, high-quality advice that my clients truly value.

Why I do what I do.

I relish the opportunity to build strong relationships with you as my client and delve into how to best meet your advice needs. I care about getting the right outcomes for my clients – which means helping you to achieve what you set out to achieve. My role is 70% financial coach, 20% counsellor and 10% chaplain. I am with you through life’s purple patches, but also its storms.

Me outside work.

I am (maybe surprisingly) fairly introverted – which means a good time for me looks like staying at home and watching movies with my family. My amazing wife, Jenna, and our three children Charlie, Hollie and Libbie, keep me on my toes, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. While I love the AFL – it’s been a tough two decades for this tired Essendon fanatic. I also like long walks following a small white ball around the hills and the trees – which most people call golf.
